Local Expertise
In Provincetown, Binder created the historic commission (now the Historic District Commission) and served as chair from 1992-99. She also chaired the Provincetown Public Pier Corporation for 10 years and recently served on the Harbor Committee, guiding Chapter 91 compliance. Her involvement spans the Zoning, Planning, and Licensing Boards, and she chaired the Building Committee for major municipal projects, including the reconstruction of MacMillan Pier and the installation of the central sewer system.
Internationally, Binder advises on sustainable tourism and cultural heritage preservation, working on iconic heritage sites such as Angkor Wat and the Markets of Trajan, as well as community-driven tourism routes in Peru and Spain. In Uruguay, she led a master planning effort to restore and adaptively reuse the central railway station and yards.
Currently, she serves as the Strategic Planning Director for Trove Tourism Development Advisors, applying her expertise in sustainable tourism strategy, asset audits, and place-based planning to help destinations develop authentic, resilient tourism frameworks. Through Trove, Binder has led projects in Phnom Penh, Cabo Verde, and Barbados, conducting readiness assessments, SWOT analyses, and strategic planning to align tourism initiatives with each destination’s unique cultural and environmental assets. Her work enhances local communities and preserves their distinct identities.
